A Minimalist Chic Carmel Valley Wedding

Anna and Chris’ Minimalist Chic Carmel Valley Wedding at Folktale Winery in 2024 was so special. Not only were they such an incredible couple to work with, but this wedding was close to my heart as well. I worked all the way up until two week before the birth of my son, and this was my last wedding before giving birth! I wish there was a behind-the-scenes photo of me working while 38 weeks pregnant… Nonetheless, it was an experience I’ll never forget.

The color story we worked with Anna to develop was warm and neutral, which peach, blush, sand and cream tones. Early in our conversations she highlighted that she loved Dutch-masters inspired design, and design shapes that embraced Hogarth’s curve (a.k.a the Line of Beauty). We incorporated both funnels of inspiration into her arrangements. Anna also really fell in love with white Cosmos as she explored inspiration, so we made that a core variety in her collection of blooms.

She also wanted to make sure the varieties and colors we chose complimented the olive green bridesmaids gowns. (Also, can we just acknowledge how stunning this bridal party looks?)

The Carmel Valley Wedding Ceremony of Anna & Chris

Working with a more minimalist design plan for the rest of the day, Anna and Chris wanted to have a more elevated and lush ceremony display. I advised them a grounded altar design would be a more refined and intimate, yet still lovely backdrop for their vows in the Rose Garden. Like them, I was so in love with the design we created for their ceremony- it was truly beautiful in every way.

Under the setting September sun, Anna and Chris said “I Do” in the vineyards of Carmel Valley’s Folktale Winery and off they were to their reception at the Vineyard House!

Anna’s sister is a woodworker and turned custom taper candle holders for the reception tables. We loved this personal detail and heartfelt contribution to the design of the tables! It is always such a treat to see family get in touch with their creativity and make something personal for the couple.

We worked with one of our favorite local growers, Starsight Farm, to create an assortment of regeneratively-grown blooms from their farm in Anna & Chris’ color scheme. Some of the varieties we included were phlox, zinnias, agrostemma, cosmos and dahlias. It was important to Anna that we relocated their beautifully ceremony flowers to the reception. We used some of them to dress up their sweetheart table and create a more vibrant experience for them to enjoy the rest of the night!

I have to admit… Most of the wedding community was not prepared for the 2025 selection for Color of the Year from Pantone- Mocha Mousse. I thought without a shadow of a doubt, it would be shade of green. So did everyone else I discussed this with after the announcement was made… It’s an interesting […]
